The establishment are turning people against Jeremy Corbyn, and it's no suprise. Jeremy Corbyn, who was elected leader of the Labour Party twice in a year, after being called 'unelectable', announced his pledges to Britain during the Labour Leadership battle. The pledges won Mr. Corbyn an even bigger mandate. Polirants takes you through these 10 pledges, to spot how they are 'unelectable' or 'controversial' in the slightest.
10. FULL EMPLOYMENT, AND AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS FOR ALL
Sound familiar? Theresa May saw just how popular with the electorate this pledge was, and sugar coated the right wing conservative party as 'The Party of the Working Class'. Mrs. May, the working class don't want to be slaves on 0 hours contracts with no job security.
Labour propose spending £500 billion on investing in infrastructure, manufacturing and new industries, funded by a nationally owned investment bank, with the added support of regional banks focused primarily on high tech investment, hence the high price tag. Technology is a huge part of our lives and there is massive potential for job creation in this sector, but that's only one aspect.
9. SECURE HOMES GUARANTEE
The Labour pledge is to build one million homes in a five year period. In which half of these will be not-for-profit council housing, helping the poor get on the housing ladder with low rents. But we can't have that can we? Living is only for the leeches with private tax havens, right?
8. SECURITY AT WORK
We can't have that! I hope you're reading this and picking up on the copious amounts of sarcasm. Many people lose their job one day before the end of the first month. Why? Because that's when your full workers rights kick in. So, Labour are planning to challenge this with stronger rights from day one in your new job. A secure working life is a happy one.
Zero hours contracts are also in the Labour firing line. Ending the uncertainty for people who could be in regular work one week, then completely out of work the next. Terrible idea.....(sarcasm).
7. SECURE NHS AND SOCIAL CARE
6. NATIONAL EDUCATION SERVICE
Stuck in the low end job you want out of, but no education to help you out of it? Can't afford to be educated, but you want that degree? Labour are offering you that chance to be educated for free, through a National Education Service. Open to EVERYONE, whatever age you are. Now that alone should win anyone's vote. How it doesn't is beyond comprehension.
5. ACTION TO SECURE OUR ENVIRONMENT
Our children rely on us to make the right decisions when it comes to climate change. Millions and millions of drivers on UK roads, that increases by 600,000 cars per year according to a BBC investigation, leads one to believe that our carbon footprint can contribute to heating up the planet, and putting our children in danger. Labour's aim is to provide clean energy for the 60 million, not the 6 companies that profit from it.
4. PUT THE PUBLIC BACK INTO OUR ECONOMY AND SERVICES
3. CUT INCOME AND WEALTH INEQUALITY
Why is this policy so controversial? What is it about closing the gap between the rich and the poor that is so unelectable? If companies don't pay their fair share in taxes, then the world needs to work together to ensure that businesses can not just use a tax haven to avoid paying tax, or pay a lower rate in a different country. This pledge is to ensure the rich pay their fair share of tax, and the poor get the wage increase they deserve.
2. ACTION TO SECURE AN EQUAL SOCIETY
This pledge is to strengthen the Human Rights Act, and to protect it from discrimination and prejudice. The policy will help protect women and girls against violence, to tackle racism and discrimination for your religion or skin colour, and to offer more equality to the LGBT community and disabled people.
1. PEACE AND JUSTICE AT THE HEART OF FOREIGN POLICY
