HIV's days could be numbered. A British man may be the first in the world to be cured of the deadly infection. Which would be a historic moment for mankind.
HIV/AIDS has claimed the lives of over 70 million people worldwide. However, scientists are reducing that number. in 2014 the death toll dropped by a massive 41.4% compared to the death toll peak in 2005.
The British gentleman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said ' I took part in the trial to help others as well as myself. It would be a massive achievement if, after all these years, something is found to cure people of this disease. The fact that I was a part of that would be incredible'.
It is to be made clear, though. That HIV is still going to be a long fight. The infection was undected, but that does not mean it wasn't present. Even if the man has been cured (we hope he has), this may not be the universal cure for everyone. But we can sleep well knowing that we are one step closer to freeing the world from this horrible infection.
